In 1823, the Excise Act changed whisky forever.

By making legal distillation more accessible, this landmark legislation ushered in a new era for Scotch whisky. In the years that followed, distilleries across Scotland applied for licences and laid the foundations for the industry we know today.

Join us for License to Distil, a guided virtual tasting featuring six exceptional whiskies from distilleries founded in 1824 — the first full year after this historic act came into force.

As we taste through six remarkable drams, we’ll uncover the stories of these pioneering distilleries and explore how one change in the law helped transform Scotch whisky from an illicit trade into a world-renowned spirit.

Expect fascinating history, delicious drams, and plenty of whisky geekery along the way.

Perfect for history lovers, whisky enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys discovering the stories behind the spirit.
